Curvature Reach

Curvature Reach, incorporates two perspectives of space exploration, the inner monologue and the vast outer world. The inner monologue involves the explorer’s thoughts and the sound of breath or heartbeat inside a spacesuit. This appears as unconventional clarinet sounds and later as hard candy against teeth. The vastness of endless space as perceived from afar and in our imagination is represented by the cello which was recorded in a very large room and later slowed down. Both elements were transformed and woven into an abstract narrative along with additional sounds such as disc drive motors.

Gary Rouzer (amplified objects, cello, clarinet) was born in Washington DC and works in the area between free improvisation and composition. He used to masquerade as a bass player but now his Cageian preparations have taken on a life of their own. His focus is on electro-acoustic sounds and the relation between musician and listener within the performance space while exploring noise, silence, texture, and abstract narrative. He is an active member of the DC experiment music scene and has performed at Sonic Circuits, Electric Possible, Fringe Festival, and Artomatic in addition performances in Baltimore, NYC, Hamburg, and Berlin.
